Federal regulatory agencies face mounting pressure to manage litigation, investigations, and compliance workflows at scale — while operating under some of the most stringent data security requirements in government. This agency needed to retire a legacy on-premises eDiscovery system holding up to 1 petabyte of data and replace it with a FedRAMP-authorized cloud platform capable of ingesting up to 10 TB of new data per month. Coordinating across multiple divisions, government contractors, and 2,000+ users spread across several U.S. offices — each with varying levels of eDiscovery expertise — made the transition technically and operationally complex. Remaining on legacy infrastructure meant continued cost burden, limited access to AI-assisted review, and compounding risk as data volumes grew.
Following an extensive evaluation, the agency selected Casepoint's enterprise-grade SaaS eDiscovery platform for its combination of security pedigree and AI-driven analytics capabilities. Casepoint pursued and obtained FedRAMP Authorization along with an agency-specific Authority to Operate (ATO) — prerequisites for any federal deployment. A structured phased approach began with a one-year pilot migrating up to 20 TB, followed by Phase 1 targeting 700 TB and Phase 2 covering an additional 300+ TB. Single sign-on was integrated with the agency's Active Directory to streamline access across offices. Casepoint's AI and Advanced Analytics module enabled automated document classification, prioritization, and review workflows tailored to federal litigation and compliance use cases. To fit agency-specific processes, Casepoint delivered over 100 custom product enhancements, with detailed project plans governing migration, risk mitigation, onboarding, and training across all locations.
The agency met all key milestones during the pilot period and achieved its training objectives across the full user base before advancing to full rollout. Key outcomes include:
The transition eliminated reliance on aging on-premises infrastructure while giving legal and compliance teams access to AI-assisted review tools that were previously unavailable at this scale.
