Like other top Indian law firms, Khaitan & Co needed to improve efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround on routine legal work while keeping client and firm data secure. Lawyers faced heavy loads on contract summarisation, document list reviews, change-of-control analyses, and related workflows that competed with higher-value advisory work.
The firm launched the Khaitan AI Programme (KAI), an internal initiative that combines firm-specific data with various large language models under a structured AI strategy led by its digital, technology, and innovation team. Tools such as KAI.Query and custom utilities (including a litigation date-tracking widget) were built to deliver practical lawyer-facing capabilities with an emphasis on data security and responsible innovation.
In November–December 2024, KAI.Query saved approximately 85–100 hours across various use cases. Material contract summarisation reduced review times by 50–60% in certain large-scale projects. Document list reviews and change-of-control provision analyses saw efficiency gains of 50–75%, and custom tools further streamlined workflows.
