Syngenta’s Legal Department had to do more with less across 30+ jurisdictions amid rising complexity and request volume. The team faced a rapidly growing workload, pressure to cut external legal spend, and a fragmented knowledge base that slowed access to critical information.
In September 2024, Syngenta launched its AI for Legal Programme with Harvey at the center. Head of Legal Operations Marie-Cécile Martin ran a global pilot with 50 lawyers, backed by weekly AI clinics, structured training, and KPIs for satisfaction, hours saved, and external spend impact. Within six months of the first licenses, user count doubled through peer-to-peer sharing and an internal Legal AI Scouting Team spreading best practices.
A June 2025 survey found lawyers save 3.6 hours per week on average (more than 6 hours for power users), equating to about $18,000 in annual productivity gains per lawyer. 100% of users reported external counsel savings. Lawyers use the platform to draft contracts, run compliance surveys, summarize board meetings, and complete regulatory research in minutes instead of hours or days.
