Law firms face pressure to differentiate services and lower costs, while young lawyers spend six to ten hours on tedious early-phase responses to complaints. Drafting that first bundle of work after receiving a complaint is among the most time-consuming and thankless tasks in practice.
LegalMation used IBM Watsonx AI, training it on thousands of lawsuits, complaints, and responses, then refining outputs with subject-matter experts. After a six-month build and further proof-of-concept testing with select clients, the firm released a public tool that lets attorneys drag and drop documentation to generate early-phase responses.
Work that once took an overworked new lawyer a full day can be completed in minutes. The system reduced attorney workload by around 80%, cutting overhead and letting new talent move faster into higher-value strategy work instead of a prolonged “pay-your-dues” drafting phase.
